Description of service
They did a coolant bypass, they adjusted the clutch and they re-packed the bearings. Re-packing the bearings was the most labor-intensive thing and that came to 140.00. The other stuff coolant bypass was 40.00 and adjusting the clutch was forty dollars. So it was 140 for the bearings labor, 30 for clutch adjustment, and 40 for coolant bypass labor, plus the cost of the bearings and hose i think.
Review of Service
Well I think mechanics make too much money, but they work hard for it and ruin their hands, so I guess maybe I don't want to get my hands dirty unless I can do an easy repair myself. I always end up paying like 300 or 400 dollars for a repair which is more than I make in a week, so it hurts the pocketbook everytime my car breaks down. The bearings are a tough job and that took a couple hours at least and isn't easy to do without a hydraulic lift. The coolant bypass, I'm not sure I could do well either. So I let them do it and the price is reasonable. Labor and parts. Mostly labor in this case.
Tips
Always do easy repairs yourself with quality parts if you can find and afford them. For everything else find an honest mechanic who will do hard work for a fair price. The going rate for mechanical labor is around 60-75 dollars an hour so that's what I go by.
