Description of service
The driver's side power window went out in my car about a month prior to the service date. The cost included the replacement of the motor that controls the power window. The cost was broken down as follows: $75 for one hour of labor, $15 for replacement of miscellaenous minor parts, and $345 for the motor itself. (note- the actual part has a more technical name than simply "motor" but this is an accurate description of what the part actually was)
Review of Service
The service took just over an hour to complete. I stayed in the lobby where I was able to watch satellite tv during the visit. Coffee was availale for free and soda was available from a nearby machine. Once they were finished I was led back to the vehicle where the now fixed was demonstrated for me. It was in proper working order and hasn't been a problem since.
Tips
I learned after my rather hefty bill that the cost of the part was so high because it was from the automobile's manufacturer. I learned later from an auto parts store that I could have gone to a site on the internet that sells parts manufatured for specific makes an models under manufacturers specifications but which sell for substantially less. The part I had needed was selling for a mere $49...Keep the internet in mind when pricing car repairs it can be an excellent money saving tool. I learned form the mechanic who did the work that I could have brought in my own part and it wouldn't have bothered him at all, they don't make much on the part itself, apparently most of the profit is in the labor. Stick to mechanics you already know whenever possible, and shop, shop, shop!
