Description of service
The business replaced my timing belt, water pump, and cam shaft seals. Labor was charged only for the timing belt, since replacement of the timing belt leaves the water pump and cam shaft seals open for repair. The repair was performed at a local car repair shop, not the dealership.
Review of Service
It is an unfortunate but necessary maintenance item that must be done. I highly recommend the service. It is a lot cheaper to replace a timing belt than it is to replace an engine if the timing belt breaks.
Tips
Replace your timing belt according to the manufacturer's specifications. Some require changes anywhere from 60,000 miles to 120,000 miles. Timing belts may last longer than this, but it is best not to risk it. Do not wait until you are stranded on the side of the road to decide to perform this maintenance item. When replacing your timing belt, I recommend replacing your seals and water pump at the same time, because they may die sooner than your next timing belt replacement. It is better to start off with new parts than to be stranded later on down the road. Also, unless you have appropriate tools, do not attempt this job yourself. It requires a special bit for a torque wrench. If you do not have this bit, it will be nearly impossible to remove the crankshaft bolt on this year of the car. Leave this job to professionals only.
