Description of service
In my wife's car, the trunk release system from the passenger cabin stopped working, making it difficult to open the trunk when she was picking up the kids and they had things that she did not want on the seats. We took it to our local repair shop, they determined that the cable snapped. The cost included diagnostic, labor, and parts to replace it.
Review of Service
At first I was surprised how much it would cost to repair a simple cable, and I was told that while the part was relatively inexpensive, a lot of labor was involved to replace it, as seats had to be taken out in order to access the proper compartment. The repair shop said that they would finish it that day, but it ended up having to stay there overnight because they said that they had difficulty getting the part. However, despite all of that, you could not even tell that the car had been taken apart, and the trunk release is working well now.
Tips
If you are unsure why a cost is so high, do not feel embarrassed to ask. Also, be sure to work with a garage that you have a good working relationship with, as there is a greater chance of them being honest with you.
