Description of service
The fee covered a 75-minute group class at a small Pilates and Yoga studio. This class consisted entirely of mat work. The instructor incorporated some Yoga, and ended the session with a 10-minute guided meditation. There were only nine students in the class, so the instructor provided a lot of individual attention and direction.
Review of Service
The class was designated for intermediate students, and it was definitely challenging. The price was lower than most studios I have a used in the past, and classes at those locations usually lasted only 50-60 minutes. There were no lockers or shower facilities at this studio, which may account for the lower prices. The studio also offered a class using reformers, which is a special piece of equipment that uses resistance springs to assist with proper form and extension.
Tips
Most studios offer monthly memberships that are usually more economical than paying for individual classes. They also give preference to members when classes are full.
Many health clubs and athletic associates now provide Pilates classes due to customer demand. The quality of the instruction can vary considerably, and most do not have the capability to provide reformer classes.
Small studios offer a greater variety of classes and equipment, including reformers, but the prices tend to be higher. However, the instructors are usually more proficient.
Small Pilates studios in urban areas are frequently located in neighborhoods with limited parking. Walking or taking public transportation is often more convenient, and it can save on parking fees.
