Description of service
The Pilates classes were available for fifteen dollars per class, or if you registered for the entire month, the rate was only twelve dollars per class. Anyone was able to sign up for the class, either pre-paying with the twelve dollar rate, or simply walking into the center and paying the drop in fee of fifteen dollars. All money paid by students had to be paid in cash or check form, and the money was paid directly to the Pilates teacher. I believe that the teacher then had to pay the center a room rental fee, but Pilates students did not have anything to do with that cost. The only cost was for the training in the classes by the teacher. Classes were two times a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, so it was a better deal to pre-pay if you knew you would be able to attend the classes regularly. The drop in fee is very convenient for those with busier schedules, and also for regular students who wanted to bring some friends along to try out the class. If the friends did not like the class, they only paid the fifteen dollars then, rather than paying the whole monthly amount and not coming back to class. If you wanted to, you could purchase a Pilates mat of your own, but I always used the ones they had at the center, so there was no additional cost for me.
Review of Service
The teacher was a former dancer, so she was very knowledgeable about the human body and flexibility. She also knew how to teach with proper form while doing the different exercises. We learned Pilates breathing- in through the nose, out through the mouth. She goes over the basics every time there is someone new in class, which is the only bad thing about class. If you go regularly, sometimes it is too easy if there are a lot of new people there. However, usually the teacher is very good at letting people pick their levels. A lot of the Pilates moves have various levels anyway, going from beginning to advanced moves. If you attend classes a lot, you can pick a harder level to try. I think the class is a great price, especially if you go often and get the monthly rate. I would think it would be hard to find a cheaper rate than these classes. Plus the teacher is friendly and makes class fun, and can answer people?s questions if they are confused about a particular move. I have greatly increased my flexibility and also feel healthier and stronger. I always feel better after Pilates classes and I definitely think they are worth the price.
Tips
If anyone is interested in taking Pilates classes, you should see if you can observe the class first. Some places even let you try the first class for free. That way you can see if the teacher is any good, and make sure they are being safe with the student?s abilities and can teach all the different exercises. Even if the class is not free, our center has the drop in rate, so you do not waste money in case you do not like the class or it is just a bad fit for you. Pilates can be quite challenging at times, and it is helpful to be in fairly good physical shape to take the classes. You do not have to be a person who works out constantly, but I have noticed with people who are not in shape, they have a much harder time doing the moves. Also, another hint for the men would be that usually there are only women in the Pilates class that I take. Only once in a while does a man take the class. Not that there is anything wrong with a man taking the class, but it is just a warning so you are not surprised if you go in to the class and see only females there.
